J. Gavin Helton, MD

President – Clinical Integration, Mercy Virtual

In March 2018, Dr. J. Gavin Helton assumed the position of President – Clinical Integration of Mercy Virtual alongside Vance Moore, President – Business Integration. As co-leaders, they will share accountability for our virtual care strategy, with Dr. Helton focusing on clinical care and Moore on operations.

A primary care physician for nearly two decades, Dr. Helton assumed the role of medical director of ambulatory medicine for Mercy Virtual in 2015 and led the successful launch of the vEngagement program (formerly Engagement@Home). In 2017, he took on additional responsibility as medical director for all Mercy Virtual patient care service lines. Dr. Helton believes the integration of virtual care is the next major step in restructuring care delivery – a true patient-focused care continuum.

Dr. Helton received his undergraduate degree from Saint Louis University and attended medical school at the University of Alabama School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency at Mercy Hospital St. Louis, where he also served as Chief Medical Resident. As a member of the faculty staff, he has continued to be an educator for internal medicine residents throughout his career.
